AQSA, in collaboration with MATRADE, organized a webinar focused on exploring opportunities for exporting Quantity Surveying (QS) services to ASEAN countries. The event aimed to share effective strategies and pathways for Malaysian QS firms to expand into the ASEAN market, highlighting MATRADE’s initiatives to support such ventures. Key presentations were delivered by AQSA President Dato’ Sr Aziz Abdullah and MATRADE’s Director of Construction Business, Datin Rusiah Mohamed, followed by a panel discussion featuring industry experts Sr Kwan Hock Hai and Sr Dr Ong Lian, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Sr Dr Sarajul Fikri. The session provided valuable insights into the experiences and challenges of exporting QS services abroad. The webinar attracted 200 participants and was accredited with 2 CPD points by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM).

AQSA marked a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading Quantity Surveying professional bodies across ASEAN, aiming to foster collaboration and streamline cross-border Quantity Surveying services and education. Hosted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), this initiative will expand opportunities for Quantity Surveyors to offer their expertise and educational programs throughout the region, with host countries facilitating these efforts. The MoU was signed by distinguished representatives from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, and Indonesia, reflecting a united commitment to advancing the profession across ASEAN.

AQSA achieved a major milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UTM Space at Jalan Semarak, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership to provide Quantity Surveying educational services throughout ASEAN via the AQSA platform, with UTMSpace as the service provider. The MoU, signed by Dato’ Sr Aziz Abdullah (AQSA President), Prof. Sr Ghani Abdul Khalid (AQSA Secretary General), and Prof. Dr. Azlan b. Abdul Rahman (UTMSpace CEO), signifies a new era of regional educational collaboration. The event also featured a lecture by Datuk Dr. Syed Omar Sharifuddin bin Syed Ikhsan, UTM Adjunct Professor and Secretary General of the Ministry of Works Malaysia, on "Digital Construction Information 4.0 – Challenges and Way Forward."

AQSA has initiated its engagement with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) through a virtual meeting between the AQSA Committee and CIDB, led by Datuk Ir. Ahmad 'Asri, CEO of CIDB. This marks the beginning of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration and explore opportunities within the ASEAN construction sector, with a particular focus on advancing the field of quantity surveying.

AQSA has taken another significant step in engaging with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) through a virtual discussion between the AQSA Committee and MATRADE, led by Datin Rusiah Mohamed, Director of Construction Business Development. During the meeting, MATRADE shared key initiatives designed to promote Malaysian construction services internationally, highlighting various support services, grants, and assistance available to the industry. This engagement opens new opportunities for Quantity Surveying (QS) services to benefit from MATRADE’s offerings, and AQSA expressed keen interest in collaborating with MATRADE to further promote QS services via their platform.

25th - 25th January 2022

AQSA, in collaboration with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) an d UTMSPACE, successfully organised the inaugural Virtual International Quantity Surveying (QS) Conference 2022, themed "Collaboration and Mobility of the QS Profession in ASEAN Countries – The Challenges and Way Forward." Supported by key industry bodies such as MATRADE, BQSM, AFEO, MBAM, and ACEM, the event brought together distinguished speakers from across ASEAN, including the Honourable Secretary of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Chief Executive of CIDB Malaysia, construction ministry representatives, and presidents of various professional associations. The conference provided a vital platform for industry leaders, project managers, contractors, and developers to discuss challenges and explore future directions for the QS profession in the region.

AQSA has strengthened its commitment to advancing sustainability in the quantity surveying profession by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RICS and joining the International Cost Management Standard Coalition. The signing ceremony, held at De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan @ The Linc KL, was attended by RICS President Clement Lau and AQSA President Dato' Aziz Abdullah, underscoring the importance of international collaboration and the sharing of best practices.

AQSA and BCIS co-hosted a webinar featuring distinguished industry leaders, including Ken Creighton (Head of International, BCIS and Vice Chair, ICMS Coalition), Karl Horton (Chief Data Officer, BCIS), Varughese Mathew (President, Indian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and ICMS Trustee, Dubai), Mark North (Associate MEP, WT Partnership Australia & New Zealand and ICMS Trustee, NZIQS), and Dr. See Lian Ong (Turner & Townsend, Former RICS Global President, Malaysia). The panel shared valuable insights on the application of international location factors and the International Cost Management Standards (ICMS) in providing early-stage cost advice, benchmarking, and developing preliminary and elemental cost plans to support informed decision-making in construction projects.

AQSA organised the Research and Education Conference 2024, at the Imperial Hotel in Kuching, Sarawak, brought together academicians, researchers, professionals, government agencies, and students to explore the theme "Futurising Built Environment – Transformative Effects of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology". The event featured keynote speeches, paper presentations, and networking sessions focused on how AI and digital technologies are reshaping construction management, real estate development, and facilities management across ASEAN. The conference emphasized Sarawak’s economic resilience and the importance of smart partnerships within ASEAN, providing a platform for sharing best practices, fostering international collaboration, and advancing sustainable growth in the built environment sector.
